History of a Tanto Pocket Knife
The Tanto Pocket knife has its origins from Japan. It was constructed in the Heian period and was used as a weapon for fighting. This knife comes with either a single-edged blade or a double-edged blade. If its a fixed blade tanto knife, then the length of the blade is usually between 6 to 12 inches long. The original tanto blade knives featured a san mei construction and they were given heat treatment as well.  

The Samurai warriors used the tanto blade knives for the first time. They served the Fujiwara family who was the elite family of Japan during the Heian period and was in power as well. The Samurais being their soldiers designed the Tanto knife for the protection of the Fujiwara family and used these knives against their enemies. Their primary weapon was the Katana but they used to carry small daggers for close quarter combats, self-defense and utility purposes. These daggers featured tanto blades which proved to be very effective for stabbing and slashing. The modern-day tanto pocket knife is inspired by those knives; it still features some of its design characteristics, however, numerous changes have been made in the overall design and form.

The tanto knife that the Samurai warriors used was a short sword and proved to be a very effective secondary weapon to them. However, modern-day tanto pocket knife is not a fixed blade knife like those daggers, rather they are foldable and feature a trailing point blade.
Many different types of pocket knives were developed over time and some of them were even used for decoration purposes. These knives were used extensively during World War II as well, however, soon after the war, the government of Japan put a ban on the use of these knives.
A tanto pocket knife is quite durable, strong and features awesome performance and functionality.

The flat grind and the high point of the blade are its most distinguishing features and make the blade exceptionally strong and quite able to get through the toughest of materials. The best thing about a tanto blade is that it stays in a good shape for a long period of time even if you use it on a daily basis.

The design of a Tanto pocket knife boasts of its Japanese origin and looks quite elegant.
4- Pommel
The pommel of a tanto knife is made up of steel and is designed to receive the maximum impact. The performance of such a blade is also very good and it is designed in a way that the slightest hit can provide a heavy blow to the target.

The blade of a tanto knife is easily sharpened and this way it lasts long and effective as well. Therefore, a tanto pocket knife also provides the ease of sharpening to the user.
